The Four Most Common Types of Psychic Abilities

Psychic or psi abilities, also called extrasensory perception (ESP), is the ability to know, see or affect things using your mind. In this article, will show you the four most common types of psychic skills.

1. Clairvoyance

The word clairvoyance is derived from two French words, “Claire,” meaning clear, and “voyant” meaning seeing. Clairvoyance is the ability to acquire information about a person, event, object, or location using extrasensory means. One who possesses this ability is called a clairvoyant. One way this ability can see things that are distant in time or space.

3 classes of clairvoyance:

Precognition: The ability to perceive or predict future events.

Retrocognition: The ability to see past events.

Remote viewing: Being able to perceive contemporary events happening outside the range of normal perception. These can be present, past or future events, and a remote viewer has the ability to move along a timeline at will. For 20 years, the US government operated a highly classified remote viewing unit, reportedly to great success. It’s existence was accidentally leaked, and some believe the government shut it down only so that it could continue operating it surreptitiously.

2. Telepathy

Telepathy is the ability to communicate between two or more minds without the use of speech, writing, body language or any other means. Founder of the Society for Psychical Research, Frederick W. H. Myers coined the phrase in 1882.

A common test for telepathic abilities is the use of Zener Cards, developed by J.B. Rhine, were an especially designed card deck featuring 5 different objects represented by pictorial icons (star, circle, plus, square and waves). The subconscious mind works better with images. In the typical administration of this test, two individuals are separated by a barrier. The “sender” holds a card and concentrates on it trying to visualize the symbol on the card and send it to the “receiver.” The other individual, the “receiver,” tries to receive the message sent by the sender by correctly naming the card that the sender is holding.

There is still some debate about whether someone is receiving a message because the other person is purposely sending them that message, or whether the receiver is simply reading their thoughts.

3. Psychokinesis or telekinesis

Psychokinesis, also called telekinesis, is the ability to move or affect items with your mind, being able to change the environment, such as air temperature. The word “kinesis” means movement or motion. Psychokinesis attempts to move objects without physical interaction.

4. Precognition

Precognition is the third type of ESP most commonly studied, the knowledge of something in advance of it’s happening – whether in a dream or in a waking state.

There are several theories on how it works.

One theory for the possibility of precognition is that humans send psychic waves, however, these have never been detected and there is no explanation for why they travel at faster than light speeds, so a newer theory is that it involves electromagnetism.

Another theory is that psychic abilities occur in a dimension outside of our four dimensions, but interacts with them.
